This sample demonstrates how to use methods of the ContactPicker class to select one or more contacts. It also includes a basic implementation of the ContactPicker APIs to demonstrate how to display a list of contacts to the user.

Note  This sample was created using one of the universal app templates available in Visual Studio. It shows how its solution is structured so it can run on both Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1. For more info about how to build apps that target Windows and Windows Phone with Visual Studio, see Build apps that target Windows and Windows Phone 8.1 by using Visual Studio.

This sample uses classes from the Windows.ApplicationModel.Contacts namespace. Some of the classes you might want to review in more detail are the ContactPicker class, which you use to launch the picker and acquire contacts. For apps that want to supply contacts to other apps, this sample shows how to use the ContactPickerUI class to create a collection of contacts. We also recommend you take a look at the Managing user contacts (Windows Store apps using JavaScript and HTML) and Managing user contacts (Windows Store apps using C#/VB/C++ and XAML) sections of our documentation, which describe how sharing works and contain quickstart topics that covers how to select a single contact, multiple contacts, and select specific contact information.

To obtain an evaluation copy of Windows 8.1, go to Windows 8.1.

To obtain an evaluation copy of Microsoft Visual Studio 2013 Update 2, go to Microsoft Visual Studio 2013.

Note  For Windows 8 app samples, download the Windows 8 app samples pack. The samples in the Windows 8 app samples pack will build and run only on Microsoft Visual Studio 2012.
